Transferring Credit

NDSU accepts college-level coursework from institutions that are accredited. A full list of accepted accreditations can be found in the NDSU Bulletin.

Courses earned through non-accredited institutions or those that are remedial by definition of the transferring institutions or equivalent to a remedial course at NDSU will not be accepted in transfer.

You will receive a transfer credit evaluation once you have been admitted, but you can see how your credits will transfer by using our Transfer Equivalency System (TES) database. Search for the institution you earned credit through and then search for the classes you took.

  • If the classes you took are not listed in the TES database it is likely that they haven’t been evaluated before.

The applicability of transfer credits toward your intended program of study is determined the respective Academic Department upon admission to NDSU. The Office of Registration & Records may determine the suitability of your coursework to fulfill general education requirements, pre-requisites or lower-level courses.

All of the Transfer Policies can be found in the NDSU Bulletin. Transfer students are strongly encouraged to review these policies and reach out if they have any questions.

Detailed information regarding transferring credit and completing your degree can be found on the Transfer Credit & Degree Completion page.

Completing Your Degree

Transfer students should be aware of the important policies regarding degree completion.

Students with transfer credit from another institution must earn a minimum of 60 semester credits from a baccalaureate-degree granting or professional institution. Of these, at least 36 must be NDSU residence credits as defined below. Within these 36 resident credits, minimum requirements include 15 semester credits in courses numbered 300 or above (36 upper-level credits must still be earned in total) and 15 semester credits in the major field of study. The full policy can be found in the NDSU Bulletin.

Fact Sheets, Transfer Guides, Agreements

  • Fact Sheets
    • Transfer Students may view the Programs of Study to see their program requirements and get a layout of how their classes may look.
  • Transfer Guides
    • The NDSU Office of Admission has created Transfer Guides for all North Dakota Schools and some Minnesota Schools. These guides show you the classes to take while at your current institution for a successful transfer. If you do not see your institution or major listed, please contact ndsu.admission@ndsu.edu
  • Articulation Agreements
    • The articulation agreement is a formal agreement between two institutions. It serves as the basis for degree plans and will aid in the selection of coursework at North Dakota State University. All current articulation agreements may be found on the Office of Registration and Records website.
