NDSU students join a variety of student organizations to make their NDSU experience even more meaningful. Hannah Lange and Sammi Wojcik saw something was missing and decided to start their own NDSU club.

Lange and Wojcik are two of four women in the College of Business student organization Bison Fund. The group travels to meet finance firms and competes in competitions. The pair started noticing a trend.

“No one is female,” said Lange. The classmates-turned-friends got back to campus after one of the trips and decided to start Women in Business.

That was in April. Fast-forward to today and the group is more than 60 students strong, representing majors across campus. The goal of the group is to connect students, support each other and learn about careers in various industries.

“I have loved getting the opportunity to meet other students and professionals in the community,” said Wojcik, a junior majoring in finance from St. Michael, Minnesota. “I’ve developed great friendships and learned a lot from these women already. I'm excited to see these relationships continue to grow.”

The group meets on Thursdays at Barry Hall. They volunteer once a month together and women professionals come in to speak about their careers. Women in Business also tours companies around the Fargo area.

“We’re creating a relationship between NDSU and the business community,” said Lange, a junior majoring in finance and economics from Paynesville, Minnesota. “Fargo is going to benefit from this and NDSU will, too.”

The group will continue to meet next semester and have more volunteer and business tour opportunities.

“My involvement with Bison Fund and Women in Business has completely changed my experience at NDSU,” said Wojcik. “I recommend incoming students join one or two student organizations and get very involved in them. After speaking with many executives at large firms, it’s apparent that these things truly do matter as they look at new job applicants.”
